Jurgen Klopp Reveals Who He Texted During Celebrations In Villareal After Reaching Champions League Final

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he took time to text a few important people midway through celebrating his side’s semi-final win against Villareal in the Champions League.

Liverpool came from 2-0 down at half time to win 3-2 away at Villareal to reach their third Champions League final in five years. The players were in celebratory mood as their efforts in Spain resulted in a chance to win the club’s seventh European crown.

Whilst Klopp joined in with his players’ celebration, he took time out to ensure he texted a few people that played an integral part in the team’s success.

His wife Ulla, who Klopp said was instrumental in convincing him to sign a new contract at the club recently, had already texted him so Klopp replied to her texts.

The next set of messages were sent to two players who played a vital role last season in the Reds’ push to secure Champions League football.

Defenders Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips were called upon last season during the club’s defensive injury crisis which saw Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all suffer long term injuries.

Klopp told Sky Sports News : “I messaged Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips because we wouldn’t be there without them.

I remember the final game of last season and they left the pitch with a bandage around the head, cuts on their faces, and that was really a symbol for the whole period. We went through on one leg, with one eye… it was incredible. It was such a tough season.”
