Nigerian Arsenal fans party with FA Cup trophy

Some Nigerian Arsenal fans had a rare opportunity of having a feel of the Emirates FA Cup on Thursday.

The trophy, competed annually by over 500 English clubs, is the oldest association football competition in the world.

Arsene Wenger, on May 27, led his team to picking up the title for the 13th time, beating Chelsea, thus becoming the competition’s most successful team.

To celebrate their historic achievement, the Gunners went on a title tour around the world, with Nigeria one of the lucky pick.

The West African nation has unarguably the club’s largest fan base on the continent.

Though many are still pained by their team’s indefinite Premier League title drought and disappointing fifth place finish, they were made to take a little nap, at least until the season resumes.

“The Emirates FA Cup has been in Nigeria for an official Arsenal fan event,” a club statement revealed on Friday evening.

“On Thursday, 75 guests – comprising of official supporters’ club members and club representatives – had the chance to take photos with the trophy. The guests also received an Arsenal goodie bag containing an official Emirates FA Cup final scarf, club merchandise and memorabilia.

“During the visit, we also took the Emirates FA Cup to the offices of official club partners MTN Nigeria and STAR Lager Beer.”

Arsene Wenger’s will commence the 2017/18 campaign with a clash against Leicester City.
