This season, Cristian Romero has faced criticism, but Ange Postecoglou, the manager of Tottenham Hotspur, hopes the Argentinean’s fortitude can be applied to the rest of his team.
After Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya made a mistake, the World Cup winner gave Tottenham a late lead against Arsenal on Sunday.
Romero’s performance was a high point for the hosts, but it was unable to stop a 3-2 loss that ended Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four.
“He was excellent. Postecoglou told reporters, “He’s a World Cup winner, and I just have to get some of what’s in him into some of the others.”
Romero’s tough nature has caused issues for the team since he joined, and in his 77 Premier League games, he has received 22 yellow cards and two red ones.
Nonetheless, Tottenham will need him if they hope to get better the following season because he is undoubtedly a class act.
The loss on Sunday encapsulated Tottenham’s season. Even though they occasionally exerted dominance and displayed some creative football, a clinical Arsenal team easily defeated them to maintain their lead in the title race.
It is disheartening. The result was not what was expected. For the sake of the club and our supporters, we wanted to win today. We didn’t do that, and regardless of how I feel about the performance, the result still belongs to you, Postecoglou stated.
“I felt that overall, our football was decent and good. Most of the time, we had complete control over the game, but we are aware of this. We are confident in our abilities as a team.Two of Arsenal’s goals came from corners, with Bukayo Saka’s goal on the counterattack coming in between Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s own goal and Kai Havertz’s goal.
Postecoglou, though, asserted that he was not fixated on his team’s difficulties with set pieces.
If I believed that improving defensive set pieces would help us close the gap, I would devote all of my time and energy to that. However, that is not our current situation,” the former Celtics manager informed reporters.
“I don’t think it’s about one part of it, I think it’s a bigger, broader picture than that, but our defensive set pieces for those two were very poor.”However, there are many more issues to resolve.”
With 60 points from 33 games, Tottenham is still in fifth place, seven points behind Aston Villa, who have played two more games. Tottenham still has games against Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
