Gian Piero Gasperini, the head coach of Atalanta, and the team have agreed to extend his contract.
Journalist Nicolo Schira claims that Gasperini’s contract with “La Dea” will be extended until 2026, with a 2027 option. A salary of five million euros a year will be his.
The coach turned down three sizable offers to stay in Bergamo, one from Napoli and two unidentified foreign teams.
For the first time in its history, Atalanta took home a European trophy on Wednesday, May 22. “La Dea” ended the German team’s record-breaking unbeaten run in the Europa League final with a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. The primary planner behind this momentous accomplishment for the team was Gasperini.
Atalanta has 69 points after 37 games, and sits fourth place in the Serie A standings. Because of their league play, the team has already guaranteed their spot in the Champions League for the following season; their victory over Bayer has validated this right.
