For the first time since 2017, no Man City player nominated for Premier League Player of the Season

With just two matchdays left in the English top flight, the Premier League is starting to wrap up its season and announce the key accolades. The shortlist for the Player of the Season has now been revealed.

Details: The Premier League has named its top eight performers of the campaign, from whom the ultimate winner will be chosen. Remarkably, three of the eight contenders hail from the reigning champions, Liverpool.

Premier League Player of the Season 2024/2025 nominees:

  • Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest)
  • Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)
  • Alexander Isak (Newcastle)
  • Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford)
  • Declan Rice (Arsenal)
  • Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
  • Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)
  • Chris Wood (Nottingham Forest)

Voting is open until 1:00 p.m. Central European Time on May 19, and fans can cast their ballots on the EA Sports website. Public votes will be combined with those of football experts to determine the winner, who will be announced next week.

Reminder: There are no Manchester City players among the nominees—something that hasn’t happened since the 2016/2017 season. Back then, three Chelsea and three Tottenham players were up for the award, alongside one each from Everton and Arsenal.

It’s also the first time since 2020 that the award will not go to a Manchester City player. The last non-City winner was Virgil van Dijk, who claimed the honor at the end of the 2018/2019 season.
