Preview: West Ham vs Leicester

One of the matches of the 27th round of the English Premier League will take place on Thursday at London Stadium, where West Ham will host Leicester.

Match Preview

West Ham pulled off a major upset in the previous round by defeating Arsenal 1-0 away. This victory was quite unexpected, considering that before this match, the team had gone four consecutive league games without a win (one draw, three defeats). Interestingly, this was only the fifth match in the current Premier League campaign where the Hammers managed to keep a clean sheet.

Graham Potter’s men are currently 16th in the standings, maintaining a comfortable 13-point gap from the relegation zone. However, consistency remains a major issue for the Londoners, as they have failed to win six of their last eight Premier League outings (one draw, five defeats). Their home form has been particularly shaky, with just four wins all season, and only one of those victories coming by more than a one-goal margin.

Leicester continues its fight for survival amid a worrying slump in form. The team still has a chance to escape relegation, but they must not lose sight of Wolverhampton, who occupy the safety of 17th place. The Foxes’ situation has worsened with three consecutive goalless defeats in the league. They suffered back-to-back 4-0 thrashings against Everton and Brentford before losing 2-0 to Arsenal.

The loss to Brentford was particularly painful, as it set an unwanted club record of six consecutive home matches without scoring. Furthermore, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side has serious attacking struggles – only Ipswich and Southampton have scored fewer goals this season. In total, Leicester has lost 10 of its last 11 Premier League matches, further highlighting the crisis.
