Scandal with Nigeria’s national team leads to resignation of Libyan federation president

It appears that the recent incident involving Nigeria’s national team in a Libyan airport has impacted not only the “Super Eagles” but also Libyan officials, leading to major personnel changes.

Details: On Saturday, the president of Libya’s football federation, Abdulhakim Al-Shalmani, submitted his resignation. Following his announcement, a congress was called, where Al-Shalmani delivered a sharp assessment of his tenure, stating he no longer wished to be associated with the failings of Libyan sports.

Quote: “I do not want to be part of the failures in Libyan sports. We faced many challenges during this past period. I thank all members of the General Assembly, and I forgive everyone across all sectors of the sports community. I have a record in international, Arab, and African federations, and no one can deny that,” Al-Shalmani was quoted as saying by Libya Observer.

Reminder: Earlier reports confirmed that Nigeria’s national team safely departed Libya. The Libyan federation had failed to secure transportation for the Super Eagles from the airport, leaving the players stranded there for nearly 24 hours.
