Chelsea has selected a new head coach for the upcoming campaign. Enzo Maresca will be in charge of the first team, according to the club press service.
Maresca and the team have agreed to a five-year contract. Furthermore, Chelsea has given Leicester an additional 8 million pounds in compensation.
Enzo Maresca is 44 years old. Although he has played football for a very long time, he has never stayed anywhere for more than four years. The Italian midfielder has been linked to West Bromwich Albion, Juventus, Bologna, Piacenza, Fiorentina, Sevilla, Olympiacos, Malaga, Sampdoria, Palermo, and Verona, according to Transfermarkt.
Maresca retired from coaching in 2017 and took a position as assistant head coach at Ascoli. Later, he worked at West Ham and Sevilla in a comparable role.
During the 2020–2021 season, Maresca worked with Man City U23. He then spent six months at Parma.
In the summer of 2022, Maresca returned to Manchester City, this time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
A year ago, Enzo was invited to become head coach at Leicester City, where he won the Championship and brought the team back to the Premier League. Recall that Chelsea finished the previous season in sixth place and will now play in the UEFA Conference League. Despite these encouraging results, owners of Chelsea fired Mauricio Pochettino.
