Liverpool legend turned down the chance to play at the 2024 Olympics

The Egypt national football team will head to the 2024 Olympics without the most successful player in the country’s history.

Liverpool was willing to release Mohamed Salah for the tournament, but the star winger decided to forgo the opportunity.

Salah deemed it more appropriate to join Liverpool on time for the first preseason under new manager Arne Slot.

Salah previously competed in the Olympics in 2012, where he scored three goals in the group stage.

For the senior Egypt national team, Salah has played 98 matches and scored 55 goals.

At the 2024 Olympics, Egypt will compete in a group with Spain, the Dominican Republic, and Uzbekistan.

The football tournament at the 2024 Olympics will take place from July 24 to August 10.
