David Moyes says Lyon are favourites

May 25, 2022 | Ligue 1, Olympique Lyonnais | 0 comments

West Ham manager, David Moyes, put pressure on Olympique Lyon after claiming that they have a lot more experience in the Europa league than his team who are “new to this”. The English manager spoke to the press ahead of the first leg of his team’s Europa League quarter final tie with Lyon in London on Thursday.

“We don’t know what we’ll face, we haven’t played against them. We’ve watched a lot of matches from the French League, that’s for sure. We’re excited about the match becuase it’s a big occasion for us, for West Ham. We want to keep the run going”, said Moyes.

“We know the favourites have to win it and demonstrate it. It’s hard for me to think of us as favourites because we’re new to this and Lyon have a lot of experience“.

“They’re a very big club, very important in France. We know we’ll have to work very hard to get past them. It’s going to be tough. We have a lot of respect for everything they have achieved in recent years. A lot of people consider them a Champions League club because they’ve been there many times. I remember going to watch them against Juventus three or four years ago when I was working for UEFA. It was not so long ago that they were playing against the best in the world“, added the English manager.

Concerning his team, Moyes confirmed that Jarrod Bowen, West Ham’s best player this season, is fit to play after coming back from a five game absense against Everton on the weekend. He scored yet another goal that game. “He’s trained well and his injury hasn’t come back“, informed Moyes.
